PVT view

PVT Region    click to enlarge

PVT data contains a list of one or more PVT regions. The regions are associated with the simulation grid through the ECLIPSE™ property PVTNUM. In the ECLIPSE™ simulator, PVT regions are used to define black oil parameters. Also, PVT regions contain rock compression properties. Black oil PVT tables can be generated from a correlation. See the ECLIPSE™ reference manual for details.

The master table (located in the left panel of the view) for the PVT view is the PVT Region. Key fields for the PVT Region:

Active  Determines whether PVT region is active. Inactive regions are not written to the deck.

Name  Name of PVT region. Used only in the application.

Region ID  A uniqueregion ID for each entry in the PVT view.

Important  Make sure you undertake the following rules before assigning the Region ID. An error message is displayed if a rule is broken.

1. The Region ID must have a value greater than or equal to 1.

2. The active Region ID numbers must start with 1 and have values increasing by 1.

3. Active models must not have unique Region ID numbers.

Parameters tab

The table on the Parameters tab contains parameters which are defined for the selected PVT Region. The following are the categories of parameters on this tab.

Fluid density (DENSITY)  Defines the fluid (oil, water, and gas) at surface conditions for the PVT region.

Reference conditions  Defines the reference pressure, temperature, and salt concentration for the PVT region.

Rock Compressibility (ROCK)  Defines the rock compressibility for grid cells that are assigned to the PVT region.

Oil and water Viscosity (VISCREF) Active only if you have selected the thermal option for E100 or E300. Defines the reference pressure which is used to calculate the oil and water viscosity as a function temperature and pressure. Enter the values for reference pressure, reference dissolved gas concentration (DISGAS) and the reference oil API gravity.

Oil tab

The table on the Oil tab defines a set of curves that describe the oil component.

RS  Ratio of dissolved gas to oil in the liquid phase.  Required.  A pair of RS and Po values uniquely define an entry.

Po  Pressure of the oil.

Bo  Oil formation volume factor.

Uo  Oil viscosity.

Coil  Oil compressibility.  Optional.  Describes the density vs. pressure behavior of undersaturated oil.

Cvoil  Viscosity compressibility.  Optional.  Describes the viscosity vs. pressure behavior of undersaturated oil.

Gas tab

The table on the gas tab describes the behavior of the gas component.

Pg  Pressure at which values are defined.  Required.

Rv  Vaporized oil in the gas phase.  Optional.  If defined, a pair of Pg and Rv values uniquely define an entry.

Bg  Gas formation volume factor.  Required.

Ug  Gas viscosity.  Required.

Z  Gas Z-factor. Required for PVZG keyword.

Water tab

The table on the water tab defines the properties of the water phase.

Sw  Salt concentration.  Optional.

Bw  Water formation volume factor.  Required.

Cw  Water compressibility.  Optional.

Uw  Water viscosity.  Optional.

Cvw  Water vicosibility.  Optional.
